I’m erectus catching fire, mesmerizing as it burns
In the first of many lessons that will quickly be unlearned

I am Eve in the garden when I meet the devil’s eyes
I am Noah getting started as the water levels rise
I am Nero playing fiddle when the warnings are ignored
I am native as the fleet of boats are landing on the shore

I am Henry vs. the machine, a win I won’t survive
I am child of Hiroshima when Little Boy arrives
I am man, I am Neil as I stand on the moon
In the shadow of the craft, all that I can feel is doom

It was 300 feet long, another hundred wide
In the darkest black I’ve seen, it seemed to feed upon the light
Both organic and mechanical, the ship itself alive
And its surface breathed and shimmered, not unlike a serpent’s hide

All surrounded by a throbbing hum, a pulsing from its hull
I could feel it in my teeth, a sound I heard inside my skull
And it radiated energy like none I’ve ever known
Which I believe revived my ship to send me running home…
